It can be easily argued that one of the absolute best resources for researching assisted living in California and Orange County is the CalQualityCare website, which is a service of the California HealthCare Foundation, in partnership with the University of California, San Francisco.
This site displays Government Ratings for many facilities, and also includes facility size, what types of care is provided, and much more.
For Orange County, enter a city such as Anaheim, or Santa Ana, for example, and what type of care is needed, and a very comprehensive list of assisted living and residential care facilities will be displayed.
Choosing a facility will bring up the facility’s Government rating, if available, how many beds, or capacity, type of care provided (such as Alzheimer’s, Hospice, or Continuing Care whether it is for profit, or not, contact information, payments accepted such as Medical or Medicare, and a map of where the facility is located.
This information should be considered unbiased, and non-commercial in nature.
Another good site to get an idea of how much care will cost, on average, is the Genworth website.
Here, you’ll find a cost of care calculator, and a map. Choosing California will display the costs for home care, adult day health care, assisted living and nursing homes. You can toggle by annual, monthly and daily costs. For California, the average monthly cost of assisted living for a private, one-bedroom is ,710.
Finding specific costs for facilities you are interested in will require a bit of research on your part, or you can pass the task off to an established national referral service, who will do the research for you at no cost, and will help you to find care that fits your needs and budget. This is a great way to save time, and possibly money, and to have a knowledgeable expert help you along each step of your research.
